Pupil Advisers in Action

The latest meeting of the Sorrell Foundation’s Pupil Advisory Board saw the young advisers contribute to the transformation of extra-curricular activities for pupils across England.

Working closely with representatives from Partnerships for Schools, the group looked at hundreds of bids from voluntary sector organisations hoping to provide new and exciting extra-curricular activities in and around schools all over the country. The bids cover anything from arts and sport through to mentoring and career-focused schemes and, if chosen, will receive thousands of pounds-worth of funding.

Possible activities include Radio in Schools, which aims to encourage schools to set up lunchtime and after-school broadcasting clubs; a Greenpower Education Trust project to design and build electric cars; and Fit Kidz, a scheme training young people to become community sports coaches.

Funding for the chosen projects will be provided by The Transformation Trust, an independent charity set up to give young people the opportunities and experiences that will help them identify and fulfill their potential. The pupil advisers put together a shortlist of potential projects they thought would be valuable to pupils, which they will present to the Transformation Trust’s Board of Trustees.

The Sorrell Foundation Pupil Advisory Board meets once a term to advise on developments and projects linked to the Foundation’s work.
